Sarassu- the pond, was envisioned as a longer-run project thinking of developing a multi-layered vegetation. In order to follow a sustainable approach to improvise the organic matter, the barren bund is constructed with earth populated with legume plants. These legume plants organically fix the nitrogen in the soil, which promotes the growth of lush green vegetation in time and creates a habitat for a variety of insects and birds.

The problem of excess water during wet season and scarcity of water during dry season and the requirement of having a place for birds and a small forest gave rise to contemplate the need to design a waterbody. The waterbody was designed so that the excess water from the subsurface soil moves into the water body draining the soil to allow the root growth and receive the surface runoff water and harvest the water received through monsoon.
